Tanabata Matsuri (Star Festival) Held for International Students

A session of the annual International Student Exchange Program organized by Senior City College and the International Center was held on June 27. The purpose of this event is to facilitate cross-cultural educational experiences between Senior City College students and international students who are studying at Osaka Kyoiku University.
This Tanabata Matsuri session started with a college student representative offering a description of the origins of the so-called Star Festival. All of the international students dressed up in yukata traditional Japanese dress, made paper strips and decorations, and sang the Tanabata song in what was a fun and lively time. One international student remarked, “It was a first for me since coming to Japan but I definitely enjoyed this Tanabata Matsuri.”
The next session, which will involve the creation of kadomatsu pine decorations for New Year’s, is scheduled for December.
