The English Education Course of the Secondary Education Major meets the needs of the times by offering classes on theories and teaching techniques to integrate and improve the four language skills, while taking into consideration the latest English language education environment.
- Individuals who have adequately acquired fundamental knowledge and skills in subjects they took in high school.
- Individuals who have a strong ambition to acquire the practical educational skills needed to become a junior or senior high school teacher, focusing on the English language.
- Individuals who have a strong desire to work in the teaching profession, and who can maintain the interest in their field.

Educational Goals 1
English language skills + teaching skills = English teaching skills
"Foreign Language Communication" gives students instruction in conversation and writing, while "Studies in English Grammar" will help them improve their English skills focusing on their grammatical knowledge/skills. We are always striving to help students improve their English language skills by regularly measuring their progress with standardized tests such as TOEIC, Eiken, and other language acquisition tests. In "Introduction to the Teaching Profession," students learn what it is like to be a teacher, while in "English Teaching Methodology," they acquire teaching skills by studying English teaching methods and the best approaches to developing classes and materials by consideration of what motivates people to study. In their "Teaching Practicum," students visit actual classrooms and practice their English teaching skills.

Supporting students who wish to study abroad
Students have opportunities to study abroad at institutions including the University of Victoria in Canada, East Carolina University, the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and Western Carolina University in the US, and the Griffith University in Australia. Language training destinations include California State University at Long Beach in the US, the University of Victoria in Canada, the University of Queensland and Griffith University in Australia, and the University of Auckland in New Zealand.

Wrapping up four years of study: Writing a senior thesis in English
Students in the English Education Course are required to write their senior thesis in English. It should be a minimum of 30 pages. Based on what they have learned, students choose a topic that interests them, perform comprehensive research on that topic, and write a comprehensible thesis in English. This is an opportunity for them to demonstrate their thinking skills and their English skills, both of which are required of university graduates and English teachers.
